November 3, 2022 – DALLAS, TX –The Association of Certified E-Discovery Specialists (ACEDS), the world’s leading organization for training and certification in e-discovery and part of The BARBRI Group of legal education companies, announced today a strategic partnership with Berkeley Research Group (BRG), a global advisory and expert consulting firm.
The main concentration of BRG’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) practice is the application and use of AI and ML (AIML) in disputes, compliance, and legal business management settings. The Practice builds solutions that help people organize, manage, and work through large amounts of data in new and efficient ways.
Over the coming year, ACEDS and BRG will collaborate on an initiative that provides research and insights on AIML to the global ACEDS community. The resources created from this initiative will, in turn, support the continuing education of legal professionals with an emphasis on artificial intelligence and machine learning.
The first part of this initiative launched last week on October 26, 2022, during Relativity Fest in Chicago. In collaboration with BRG and Relativity, ACEDS has developed a short survey that explores the use of AIML in legal. Responses are anonymous, and a random respondent who selects to provide a name and email address will receive a $300 Amazon gift card.
“We are thrilled to have Berkeley Research Group join the ACEDS family as an Affiliate Partner,” said ACEDS President Mike Quartararo. “We are particularly interested in this collaboration because of the value our members and the e-discovery community will derive from the Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning Survey we recently launched,” he added. “The results, not only from this survey but the overall initiative, will prove valuable to anyone working in e-discovery today.”
“We are delighted to become an ACEDS Affiliate Partner and we are looking forward to working with the organization to support the growing need for education in the area of artificial intelligence and machine learning in electronic discovery,” said Richard Finkelman a Managing Director in BRG’s Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Practice. “The use of AI technologies in eDiscovery is accelerating quickly and we want to provide better education, transparency and tools to the ACEDS community in this area.”

Following the survey, ACEDS will host two small focus groups to discuss AIML and the findings from the survey. Those members of law firms or corporations interested in participating in the focus groups can contact Maribel Rivera at [email protected].
