While generative artificial intelligence has taken off among professional services organizations in the past year, agentic AI has yet to gain such widespread adoption, according to a report published Monday by Thomson Reuters.
Only 15% of the more than 1,500 organizations surveyed in Thomson Reuters’s 2026 AI in Professional Services Report said they already use agentic AI, while nearly one-third said they have no plans to use agentic AI. The respondents included law firms; corporate legal, risk and tax departments; tax firms and governments.
Law firms and legal departments’ usage rates of agentic AI were slightly higher than the overall total, at 16% and 18%, respectively.
Those figures represent a much more muted embrace of agentic AI compared to gen AI. Given time, however, organizations’ use of agentic AI may catch up.
