Meta Platforms Inc. faces new allegations of harming children in a trial that opened this week in Tennessee, with the state alleging the social media giant made false and deceptive statements about the safety risks posed to young people using Instagram.
Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti told jurors Monday that Meta violated the Tennessee Consumer Protection Act because it hid from the public and parents the harm that Instagram does to children and teenagers, which includes mental health problems and child exploitation.
