Sometimes law firms’ relationship with legal technology is a little bit of a one step forward two steps back dynamic. And this year’s survey from the International Legal Technology Association showed that that dance is still ongoing in 2023.

This year’s report found that firms are not only using legal technology tools more often and for more use cases, but their governance around such solutions is getting more sophisticated. In the meantime, the survey showed that firms continue to face growing security challenges and rising costs around the procurement and maintenance of legal tech tools.

Below, we look at five survey findings that Legaltech News found insightful from this year’s report.

1. Law Firms Are Using Microsoft Teams More—and More Safely

Since 2020, law firms continue to use Microsoft Teams far more than other collaboration tools such as Slack or Zoom. This year, about 76% of respondents noted using Microsoft Teams, compared with only 35% who reported using Zoom, and 4% who said the same for Slack.

Not only are law firm professionals increasingly turning to Teams, but the survey showed that they’re leveraging the platform for more use cases.
