Anthropic’s recent foray into the legal space could spell disruption for the legal tech ecosystem.
Last week the company announced that its Claude product, which hosts a number of generative artificial intelligence tools and large language models (LLMs), released a legal plugin that can review documents, flag risks and track compliance within the agentic Cowork feature.
Cowork is an agentic gen AI tool that is built for noncoders and general use, and the plugins provide users with modifiable, specialized capabilities for various job functions. The legal function was one of 11 newly announced plugins currently available as a research preview for paid users of Claude.
Although the plugins are only available in a preview phase for now, a mainstream LLM developer like Anthropic creating a legal-focused tool has the potential to disrupt the legal tech ecosystem from its users to the businesses.
