Winston & Strawn has hired the co-leader of Munger, Tolles & Olson’s information governance and e-discovery practice, as clients encounter more data challenges and obligations than ever.

Bobby Malhotra, who had practiced at Munger Tolles since 2008 and was most recently of counsel, joined Winston & Strawn on Tuesday as a partner in Los Angeles.

Malhotra is one of several departures from Munger Tolles since 2021. A three-partner real estate group left for Willkie, Farr & Gallagher last month, while a five-partner litigation group jumped to Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati last year.

“Winston & Strawn has a renowned litigation department with an international footprint, and one of the oldest eDiscovery practices in the business,” Malhotra said, noting the firm offers an umbrella of in-house technology and e-discovery services without having to farm work out to other vendors.

Malhotra focuses on e-iscovery issues in litigation and regulatory matters, as well as information privacy and data security. He is also heavily involved in the advancement and adoption of artificial intelligence in legal practice and brings a background in network engineering, technology consulting and computer programming fields.
