With a greater number of older attorneys expected to age out of the profession and succession planning earning an increased focus in the legal world, law firms will need to ramp up talent recruitment and retention, and observers envision Gen Z attorneys, with their heightened familiarity with technology, as a particularly critical asset.
Recent law school graduates looking to break into the field and early-year associates looking to move to a new firm will likely have greater marketability if they possess tech know-how because the modern practice of law is increasingly demanding firms and attorneys to be familiar with how to incorporate these skills into the legal business, experts say.
Not to mention that law firm clients themselves are increasingly adopting these newer technologies in their own operations.
“There is no doubt that certain backgrounds will make some young lawyers more marketable in the near future,” said Darin Morgan, Philadelphia-based managing partner with recruiting firm Major, Lindsey & Africa.
