ESG has become one of those corporate acronyms we repeat so often it starts to lose meaning. It signals responsibility, stewardship, long‑term thinking — at least in theory. But as AI adoption accelerates, the environmental story behind the technology is drifting further and further away from the ideals ESG was meant to represent.

Just shifting through my Christmas-break reading list, I was reminded of how many alarm bells were raised in my head. A recent article reports that the National Engineering Policy Centre (NEPC) is urging the UK government to mandate transparency from AI companies on:
