Mar. 8, 2019EAGAN, Minn. – Leading global eDiscovery education and certification provider the Association of Certified eDiscovery Specialists (ACEDS), a BARBRI professional association, is pleased to announce Executive Director Mary Mack, CEDS, CISSP, has been recognized by Relativity as the first candidate for its new 2019 “Stellar Women in e-Discovery” campaign. Mack’s podcast accepting the nomination is being released today, to coincide with International Women’s Day.

Mack is the first of many exceptional women that the eDiscovery software industry leader will recognize this year for their positive impact on the eDiscovery field and lives of others. The yearlong campaign will culminate this October at Relativity Fest in Chicago with a new Innovation Award of the same name. After a vote by the eDiscovery community, Relativity will bestow the Stellar Woman in eDiscovery Award upon one 2019 candidate who best represents the mentorship, leadership, and spirit needed to create a positive, measured impact on diversity in the industry.

“Mary Mack is a trailblazer in the eDiscovery industry thanks to her passion, commitment to community building, and expert knowledge of the space,” said April Runft, Team Lead, Brand Programs at Relativity. “We are proud to recognize Mary as part of Stellar Women in e-Discovery and to continue partnering with her to increase and celebrate diversity in the industry.”

“Mary Mack’s experience in the eDiscovery landscape is known to all in this industry. As Executive Director for ACEDS, she is literally building an international community where the exchange of training, professional development and networking thrives between a wide variety of eDiscovery practitioners,” said Barbara Bennett, CEDS, Litigation Support Manager, FCA North America and ACEDS Detroit Chapter Chairman of the Board. “Mary’s talent for warmly embracing all eDiscovery professionals, her determined assistance to raise up those around her, and her quest to raise the bar in terms of knowledge within this industry is the definition of establishing the balance that’s needed to drive a better working world. I cannot think of a better candidate for Relativity’s Stellar Woman award.”

Known as an eDiscovery leader and pioneer, Mack authored the very first book on the field, A Process of Illumination: The Practical Guide to Electronic Discovery. Her follow-up book,  eDiscovery for Corporate Counsel published by Thomson Reuters, co-edited with Carole Basri, is now in its eighth edition. Mack has pioneered processes, helped build the global eDiscovery community and written articles and posts that have helped build the industry. She is widely known for her technical expertise, and has served as product counsel and subject matter expert. She is an internationally recognized speaker and frequently sought after for her expert opinion on the complex issues facing our industry and the people in it.

“I’m honored and humbled to be included in the group of women who have received this honor,” said Mack. “Over the years I’ve watched our eDiscovery community grow, thrive and become ever-more relevant in today’s legal environment. Our accomplishments are due to the commitment, skills and efforts of the professionals around me and I am grateful for their support and collaboration.”

Mack is perceived by her colleagues to personify the 2019 International Women’s Day theme of  #BalanceForBetter, driving diversity and inclusion in every area and tirelessly advancing the careers of women and underrepresented communities in technology for over two decades. She has invested her time and talents to mentor countless people, and connected individuals and companies with opportunities, all with an eye toward strengthening the greater legal tech community.

“Mary Mack is the matriarch of our eDiscovery industry,” said Suzanne H. Clark, Esq., CEDS. “When I think of Mary, I don’t simply think of the kind, wise, intelligent, and accomplished woman she is. Rather, I have distinct memories of specific times she has guided and supported me over the years. Mary has been a mentor and confidant who I could call on for advice, counsel, and encouragement. I know the only repayment she would ask is that I aim to do the same for others.”
