Extract from Stephanie Wilkins’s article “Relativity Piloting GPT-4, Aiming to Rise Above ‘All the Noise’ Surrounding Generative AI”
As generative AI-based product releases have flooded the legal tech market in recent months, e-discovery provider Relativity has largely refrained from making any splashy announcements about what it’s doing with the technology. That doesn’t mean, however, that Relativity is simply sitting on the sidelines.
Recently, Legaltech News sat down with Relativity CEO Phil Saunders and Chief Product Officer Chris Brown to discuss how the company is working with GPT and other large language models (LLMs), why the company is stressing responsible use of AI, and more.
This conversation has been edited for length and clarity.
Legaltech News: There’s been a lot of buzz about generative AI. What’s been Relativity’s approach to it generally?
Phil Saunders: AI is not a flash- in-the-pan, next cool thing for us to dive into. It has been, it will continue to be, an enduring focus for us. It’s been well over a decade of focus for us and productization of that focus. … I frankly think we have a responsibility as the market leader. Just kind of being sexy with AI—we can’t afford that. Our customers, partners, institutions can’t afford that.
