Legal departments can’t wait to become AI experts, but they can’t sit out the conversation, either. That was the message behind “AI and the GC: Questions You May Be Afraid to Ask, But Should,” a webinar conducted Tuesday by the in-house recruiting firm BarkerGilmore.
Panelists were Pei Zhang, general counsel of the warehouse automation firm Fortna, and Michael O’Sullivan, chief administrative and legal officer at Vishay Intertechnology, a maker of semiconductors and other electronic technology. The conversation was moderated by BarkerGilmore adviser Peter Ganz, who formerly was a general counsel of two companies.
The remote audience—largely GCs and CLOs—was polled at the start of the webinar. About 60% said they used AI occasionally for specific tasks, but just a fraction said their legal departments were “leading and shaping” AI policy.
