Less than a month after Utah approved a regulatory sandbox, online legal service provider Rocket Lawyer has announced it has been accepted to participate in the pilot program. The state’s regulatory sandbox allows nonlawyers to provide certain traditional legal services and authorizes new legal business models and service delivery approaches for a two-year period, after which the state’s Supreme Court will decide on the program’s future.
Rocket Lawyer noted its application, which had to be reviewed first by the Utah Supreme Court’s Office of Legal Services Innovation and authorized by the state’s Supreme Court, was unanimously approved.
To be sure, Rocket Lawyer has a presence in Odgen, Utah, and has offered its online legal services—which include legal document drafting, legal advice and access to a network of attorneys—in the state prior to its approval for the regulatory sandbox.
