In part one of this series, we provided a detailed roadmap for organizations to reduce costs, minimize risks, and optimize data management by implementing effective data disposition strategies. In part two, we explore process design, documentation, and how technology can support the data disposition process.

When it comes to data disposition, the process and map up the mountain need to be well thought out, planned and documented. From the outset, the process and workflow must be consistent, repeatable, and defensible, providing a solid foundation for all paths up the mountain, whether simple or complex. Detailed workflows, decision trees or a technology toll designed to support this process are the absolute minimum for a successful climb.

Once again, ensuring all key stakeholders are actively engaged helps support the accuracy and validity of your process. In 2022, the e-discovery reference model (EDRM) formed a team to review the previous information governance reference model (IGRM). One of the most significant updates was the acknowledgment and recommendation that all key risk management stakeholders actively participate in records management decisions, including disposition.
